Start with the report boundary
Ask which property, search type, filters, and date ranges the report covers. A six-month comparison is a period total. Changing its chart to monthly points does not turn that total into monthly visitors.
An image can preserve what was displayed while leaving important questions unanswered. In our evidence library, the source screenshots show relative comparison periods but do not establish exact dates or a verified client-property mapping. The captions retain those limits.

Read all four metrics together
Google defines clicks as clicks from search results and impressions as appearances there. CTR divides clicks by impressions. Average position refers to the topmost result, aggregated over the report or its selected grouping. These measure search visibility and response, rather than sales revenue.
A useful review asks what changed in the audience and pages. More appearances can bring additional clicks while lowering the percentage that click. A lower average position number indicates a higher average placement, but it does not mean every query has that rank.
- Compare equivalent date windows, filters, and definitions.
- Inspect query, page, country, and device breakdowns before explaining a total.
- Connect qualified inquiries to the search report through a separately verified measurement path.
Keep percentage change separate from percentage points
If clicks move from 2.61K to 27.3K, the displayed totals imply an approximate 10.46-times comparison and a 946% increase. The approximation comes from rounded source labels; it is not an exact daily export.
CTR moving from 1.1% to 1.7% increases by 0.6 percentage points. If the previous total is zero, a percentage increase or growth multiple is undefined. A zero prior position also cannot be read as a real rank.
Choose the next question
The next useful question is usually more specific than whether the line went up. Which queries changed? Did the page answer the buyer’s question? Were inquiries captured correctly? Did the team qualify them with the same definition?
Ask for the source export and its definitions when a decision depends on more precision. Screenshots are useful context; an audited outcome requires the relevant underlying records and a documented method.
