Understand the labels
SEO concerns discoverability through search. AEO and GEO describe work aimed at answer engines and generative search experiences. Google’s current guidance treats optimization for its generative search features as part of SEO, supported by the same underlying search systems.
Other services have their own access rules and reporting. A scope should identify which engines matter to your audience and distinguish observable work from a promised placement.

Make the page useful to a buyer
Start with a question your customers actually ask and the experience that lets you answer it well. A technical service page might explain the decision criteria, constraints, examples, and information needed to get an estimate.
Prefer evidence you can stand behind: a real example, a clearly attributed result, a diagram with an accurate scope, or a documented limitation. Agree on who owns the content and when it needs another review.

Keep the foundations clear
Google recommends accessible, crawlable content and a clear technical structure. Its generative search eligibility includes indexing, snippet eligibility, and the relevant Search Console inclusion setting. Eligibility still does not guarantee display.
Its guidance also says Google Search requires no special AI schema or LLMS.txt file. There is no ideal page length. Useful original content should determine the page, rather than mass-producing query variations.
Agree on what will be measured
Choose a small set of decisions the report will support: which pages need clearer answers, which qualified inquiries came from search, or which technical issue is blocking discovery. Record the source, report type, comparison dates, and any access limitations.
A plan can commit to research, technical work, content, and reporting. Search rankings, AI citations, traffic levels, and revenue remain outcomes influenced by the engine, competition, audience, and the rest of the business. They are not guaranteed deliverables.
